3 June until 15 July
This year we intend to capture your imagination and awaken the senses by showcasing talented glass artists, in Canberra & in Miniature. The exquisite objects have been created by Scott Chaseling, Matt Curtis, Mel George, Jacqueline Knight, Brian Corr and Mikki Trail for Bilk’s popular biannual miniature glass exhibition. Working on a smaller scale can be not only challenging but also quite enjoyable. The artists participating in this year’s exhibition have enjoyed the challenge and generously agreed to work outside their proportion zone. The objects for this years exhibition display characteristics of beauty, vibrancy and delicateness. Even though they are miniatures of larger pieces, some have taken as long or longer than the larger versions to create. Scott Chaseling is a resident at the Canberra Glassworks, his miniatures extend from images in an artist book to objects with accuracy and light. Matt Curtis’s huge glass carapaces have been magically transformed and looks amazing in miniature. Brian Corr’s pieces are known for their subtleness and light, but wait until you see it in miniature. The delicate ‘Calendar Series’ of Mel George are representative of a small diary of life. Mikki Trail’s with her scar vases and caged creatures delight your imagination. Jacquie Knights tiny glass zippers, gentle yet cheeky in their form. This is a tremendous collection of glass artists in Canberra & in Miniature and is a must for any serious art glass collector or anyone interested in a dynamic flavorsome exhibition.
