Saturday with Milton Cameron
Workshop bilk is holding a series of short events event with the aim to introduce spontaneous, interesting bodies of work by established or emerging artists.

The first of these will be Saturday with Milton Cameron. Milton has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Auckland and a Master of Philosophy (Visual Arts) from the Australian National University, Canberra. He has practiced architecture in New Zealand, England and Australia and has lectured in architecture and interior design at the University of Canberra. He has recently submitted a Ph.D. about modern houses in Canberra.

Describing his approach, Milton says the new body of work forms a conceptual bridge between architecture and miniature wearable objects. While both deal with similar notions of form, material and colour, the smaller scale of jewellery allows for the design and construction of completed artefacts within a much shorter timeframe. Painted wooden off-cuts, rescued from the scrapheap, were juxtaposed in various permutations until the overall combination reached a satisfactory balance between chance and intent. While some of the brooches contain implicit references to architecture or to urban design, they are not intended to represent specific examples. It is hoped that, when worn, each might become a focus of interest that provokes discussion between the wearer and the viewer.
